Pros

Very "nice" people to work with, in general. Non-competitive environment. Reasonable work hours and full remote.

Cons

After Blackstone bought Ancestry in 2022, and a change of CEO, "squeezing blood from a stone" became the norm. Instead of investing in addressing significant tech and UX debt, every effort was spent on "shiny new things" intended to attract new (younger) customers. There's no real sense of leadership in terms of setting strategic priorities; everything feels reactionary. The UX org was decimated by layoffs and we never got the recognition nor influence it needed to do its job effectively.

Pros

Great company culture, supportive team, smooth onboarding process, strong career stability, and meaningful work. My interview experience was very positive, and the recruiting and onboarding teams were helpful, responsive, and professional throughout the process.

Cons

There is always a learning curve when joining a new company, especially while understanding internal systems and processes, but the team has been very supportive.
