Toxic leadership and burnout culture - Data Scientist Augurian Employee Review

Pros

Some talented coworkers and opportunities to work on high-impact client accounts.

Cons

Leadership felt deeply dishonest and politically driven. I experienced what felt like a sustained effort to push me out rather than support me, despite strong performance. The culture normalized burnout, lacked emotional safety and employee well-being often seemed secondary to optics and client retention. Diversity within the company was extremely limited with bro culture being the status quo and it was difficult not to notice that the few employees of color were ultimately all laid off.

Pros

A few things I love most that keep me at Augurian are the autonomy, growth opportunity, and flexibility. I started my career at Augurian as a digital marketing coordinator and have been promoted 3 times since I started working. This wasn't handed on a silver platter, I had to work for it and demonstrate improvement over time. However, I feel like when I go the extra mile it feels great to be rewarded for my hard work through either compensation increases or title changes. The autonomy to carry out the work and if I see an opportunity to lead and drive initiatives is one of my other favorite parts about working here. It works well for go-getters and people who can handle navigating ambiguous situations, which plays to my strengths. Lastly, I appreciate the flexibility to wfh and the trust to work remotely in LA for a month last October as long as I continued to perform at a high level. I've also spoken very openly about my mental health issues in the past and felt supported by the team. Now we have a mental health ERG and continuing conversations around how we can support each other in the workplace.

Cons

Some of the challenging parts are interrelated with why Augurian is so great. We're a quickly growing startup company and learning things as we go, which for people who need a lot of direction and lack the ability to learn quickly, it's not a great environment. I'm a fairly introverted person, especially for work I like to have space to think, and sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the number of meetings I have, especially with clients, but I've voiced that concern and we've been working on a meeting reduction initiative to combat this issue.
