Pros

Boxfish makes some nice promises.

Cons

I was "hired" by a teacher/recruiter and given training materials, and then no one contacted me for several weeks. I emailed several people at Boxfish, but no messages were returned. I was promised $25 per hour, but when Boxfish finally contacted me to ask if they had contacted me before, they said they said couldn't pay $25 and that I would understand. I learned from Facebook groups that some teachers had started work at the same time, but about 50% have still not been paid after working for a month. Teachers were locked out of their accounts and told that clients had complained about them. Teachers were not given details of the complaints. Other teachers haven't been paid because Boxfish's finance department needs to check all of the details. They have had nearly two months to do this. In short, this is a disorganized, disrespectful, and dishonest company that is not to be trusted. They don't always pay on time, and may not pay at all for time worked.

We are truly sorry for your bad experience and have been working tirelessly to ensure that our team is able to handle the new demand of students and teachers that caused previous issues. All tutors who submitted correct bank information have been paid, and any further delays are due to the need to request additional information to ensure payments are made. We have been paying tutors on time for years. We are very sorry for delays in receiving your payment and you should have been paid in full by now. If you have any further payment or service issues please send your enquires to teachingaffairs@boxfish.cn

Pros

I would recommend working for this company. It seemed they actually care about their teachers and I wasn't just a number. I enjoyed the structure of the classes as well.

Cons

They closed their classes hoping to restructure and open back up.

Pros

Complete freedom. I have heard HORROR stories from people working with other companies. Stories of having to teach with a bucket next to them in case they had to puke because there are only so many days you can take off in a year. Well, with boxfish you simply log in when you want to teach and leave when you're done. They don't promise a certain number of classes and you don't promise a certain number of hours. It works both ways and I enjoy it. The pay is quite decent. If you get a busy evening, you can expect to make around 15$ an hour. I have heard of teachers getting even more, but I know the opposite is also true, so I'll go with my personal average of about 15/hour. The students. Sure you get the occasional kid whose parents do everything for them, but most of the students are extremely smart and hard working. It's quite inspiring to say the truth.

Cons

They do micromanage a lot, and add new requirements fairly frequently. Since I started working there they have added the following requirements: - TEFL certification - Stand/Tripod for device - Poster in the background I can only assume that they follow their competitors. Another Con is that the "support" team is not always very fast to answer my questions. I've often had to wait an entire day to have a question answered. To their credit, they always do provide an answer and often apologize for their tardiness.
