Pros

Being around other alternative people and the products.

Cons

The owner and management will talk about you behind your back and be nice to your face. You will never get any positive recognition for the work that you do. They will load more and more responsibility onto you without any extra pay. The culture creates a hostile working environment where the staff are pitted against eachother in cliques.

Pros

Every alternative kids dream job, bragging rights because it’s *the* place to work.

Cons

Extremely high turn over rate, will hire 3+ people for one contract and close to the probation period ending, will hire a second round of people for the same contract. Will also make you train those people before they let you go for “not performing” Warehouse staff are treated as disposable, everyone wants to work there so there’s always someone to replace you, moving up the internal ladder is simply not an option, will hire you based on your skills and experience but if you’re not their type of likeable, you just get put into warehouse and someone else does what you were hired to do. Staff and Management are extremely clique-y, with management pitting their employees against each other on the sly, with strict rules against talking about wages between each other on threat of a written warning. The company boasts a welcoming, alternative environment and yet does not deliver. Was also told things about the company/brands they stock and to keep certain things “hush” so the customers don’t find out, staff are held to impossible standards in the warehouse, with minimal airflow in the downstairs section leading to health issues. Does not take sickness seriously, other staff have previously gone into work with gastro and given it to more people in the team, who were then reprimanded for needing time off to recover.

Pros

Remaining operational staff are very friendly and kind, combined with a alternative community of customers that share a positive and progressive world view Convenient location

Cons

Staff are chronically overworked which has led to severe health concerns, high staff turnover (mostly without replacement, for the last year) and increasingly poor morale. Most positions are set at federal award minimum wage (significantly below rates advertised) with no scope for extra recognition and very little opportunities for meaningful development. Business has failed upwards in my tenure (benefit of being a online retailer during Covid) expanding it's scope but a refused to realign to fit the market, combined with the small business mindset of 'improvised solutions' and a number of internal and public facing controversies have caused excessive, potentially terminal business outlook. A disengaged senior management team with a poor understanding of daily operations lean heavily on ego-based decision making, be ready for a lot of unachievable expectations and the inevitable blame-shifting that follow...
