Pros

The pros I can think of from working with this company this past year consist of the following, having the opportunity and freedom to work outdoors despite the challenges of the elements. Who wouldn't prefer to be outdoors rather than molding in an office of freon refrigeration, you are engaging with the public and forming public relations with downtowners, from residents with their friendly and familiar faces to business owners who chose downtown to establish their business to the ones who roam the street as a visitor from another area to the ones who call the pavements home. You get to help those from all walks of life. In preforming your duties you learn about the history of the land, the buildings, the businesses, the people. The history of the city as a whole. You get paid weekly and have benefits and discounts available at your disposal. You get to hosts events and be apart of putting together amazing activities and events in efforts to bring life back to downtowns. You're trained in your position and in the geographics of your downtown, you are taken on tours and explained the various areas and their importance/ purpose. You walk away each day with the satisfaction of being able to see you are making a difference with each street you walk or ride. The satisfaction of helping a person and seeing the change of attitude and emotion or behavior of the individual. You meet amazing people. Learn amazing skills that you can use in various aspects of life. You practice hospitality everyday. Hospitality is key. You get 8 paid holidays and your birthdays off. Opportunity for growth within the company. My account as well as many others are blessed with a diverse work place, many cultural backgrounds and folk of various ages. It's a friendly, fun environment with my fellow ambassadors, it's a small family here at Block by Block.

Cons

For now the only con(s) I could think of which of course may or may not apply to all accounts. Each account has minor differences given the location and client(s). Overtime is not available, but will return. Point system so be on point with attendance! Weather is wild, beware of the wind and take proper precautions for the heat and chills.

Pros

Being able to meet people

Cons

No benefits at all. Terrible place to work. Zero care for employees. Block by Block does not care about its workers at all. Employees are expected to work in extreme conditions with no regard for safety—pouring rain, freezing cold, it doesn’t matter. There is no concern for employee well-being, only getting the job done. I see the ambassadors I all different types of terrible wether conditions I feel so bad for them they say they have no choice but to stay outside I don’t even leave my animals outside in that kind of weather Even worse, the work environment is unsafe for women. They hire and keep men who behave inappropriately. I personally experienced unprovoked harassment from a metro worker. I reported it, contacted management, and left voicemails, but nothing was done. The man still has his job and continues to walk around harassing women. Management ignores complaints and protects the wrong people. Reporting issues gets you nowhere. If you value your safety, dignity, and basic respect as an employee, I strongly recommend staying far away from this company

Block by Block is committed to having a safe working environment for all of our employees. Our Ambassador positions are outdoors, all weather jobs, which is stated in our job postings and job descriptions. We provide free of charge, multiple all-weather uniforms (coats, gloves, hats, pants, shirts, shorts, rain jackets, visors, umbrellas, etc) to our staff to protect them from the elements and more extreme weather conditions. We understand this job may not be for those who do not like working in all weather conditions. We value our employees and their concerns. Please know that any concerns can be elevated to the Human Resources Dept.
