Pros

I came from an academic research environment and my goal was to get experience in industry by being part of a team that makes products that impact our everyday lives. It is a very collaborative environment, unlike in academia where you only interact with colleagues from the same department, at Blue Marble we interact and work with almost everyone in all departments. It is a very dynamic environment that encourages creativity and innovation in research- this is very helpful especially if you are looking for opportunities to grow. As an R & D Chemist, I have worked on many different projects thereby expanding my knowledge base and experience. Definitely a place for any chemist who would like to start a career in industry. Safety issues are handled with a high degree of diligence and commitment from the management. The vision, expectations and where the company is going are well defined.

Cons

As with all Biotech companies, there is always some positive pressure for experienced scientists to make a difference. Therefore, Blue Marble is always striving to get the right combination of the skills set and cultural fits within the organization. Blue Marble is a growing company and one of the few companies in Montana hiring graduates especially in the scientific disciplines, hence a lot of competition for any open positions.

Pros

There are multiple opportunities to learn new things to help yourself and the company grow. With such a refined niche in the industry we work in it makes it pretty fun to work in because of that cutting edge nature. There aren't a ton of people here so we all know each other pretty well and we keep good relationships with each other, and it doesn't hurt to have that positivity when you spend most of each day working together.

Cons

Young companies have growing pains, which Blue Marble has gotten through in most cases. Communication can be difficult but it's another hurdle to climb over.

Pros

The Blue Marble team is both diverse and collaborative. The capabilities of our team range a vast spectrum, including experts in machinery to experts in microbiology. As an R&D scientist I’m able to bounce ideas off of people in production, operations, and facilities. This has been one of my favorite aspects about working at Blue Marble and provides for a great work culture. I enjoy working and interacting with every single member of this team. Additionally, the interface with the executive team is unlike any other business. The team is kept in the loop about current business plans, strategies, current partners, and future partners. As an early career industrial scientist, I have learned an immense amount at Blue Marble and look forward to any new projects sent my way.

Cons

Blue Marble is a growing biotech business in Missoula, Montana and wages may not match similar companies in Boston or Seattle. However, the plus side is that you get to live in Missoula, Montana. Because the company is in a stage of growth there has been restructuring and new employees being added to the mix, but the current work culture and team dynamics are great. As with all biotech companies, this is a fast paced workplace working with deadlines.
