Pros

Location, location, location! Pioneer Square is full of great lunch options and it's easy to catch a ballgame after work, especially for team-building events. Benefits: free health/dental/vision (as in it's not deducted from payroll) and transportation credits.

Cons

Wow, where to start! Blue Nile is a company that after 20+ years is still in "start-up mode" and leadership shows no intention of graduating up. Blue Nile may have been a pioneer in jewelry and engagement ring e-commerce, but with it's dated selection and lack of appetite for technology and innovation, I wouldn't be surprised if Blue Nile is no longer around in 2-3 years. That's just the business model; the company is in stasis. As far as working at Blue Nile, the turnover is so high, handfuls of employees leave by the week (alarming!) In addition, the new CEO seems to be "cleaning house" and replacing veteran leaders who have been with the company since the beginning with sycophants from his previous companies. The last thing Blue Nile needs is a bunch of old white dudes at the top. That said, diversity within the lower ranks (middle management and downwards) is adequate at best. There also doesn't seem to be a path for growth or upward mobility. Working here has been so uninspiring - there are no guiding principles (other than the ubiquitous "customer obsession") and no transparency or unifying message on strategy, metrics, outlook, purpose, etc. On the subject of uninspiring and people, there's no hiring bar and the salary budgets are low, which makes it super difficult to recruit solid talent (the smart ones just go to Amazon, Facebook, Expedia or any of the tech companies that offer more competitive pay). You truly get what you pay for - people that just don't care and/or don't get it. As a result, it's really hard to get things done. If you are at the end of your career, are apathetic, agnostic about money or growth, and just want to skate by working a dull 9-5 until retirement - then Blue Nile is for you!

Pros

- One of the most diverse places to work. The overall company culture is great - people are friendly and supportive. Employee recognition is very well managed, which helps keep you motivated and engaged in your work.

Cons

One con is the learning curve associated with the business model. With multiple brands and systems in place, It takes time to fully understand how everything works. Could be addressed with training and inclusivity.

Pros

Less competitive environment because it is not commission based, comparatively high hourly wage, the whole team gets incentives if monthly goals are made, the company's name is reputable so you get a good-looking experience on your resume, good team members, less worried about losing products because most of the showroom pieces are samples.

Cons

Not much real pieces to sell, complicated system and processes, the constant shipping shifts, no on-site jewelers, long turn around time for repair and resizes and salesperson have no control over the jewelry pieces which means 90% of the job is customer service. Also not a good choice if you are looking for commission based job,
