Pros

If you want to make a career out of public accounting then this firm will give you the opportunity to network and make some connections (since it is a large regional firm). However, if you want to make a career out of public accounting then I strongly urge you to seek professional counseling.

Cons

Where do I even begin....working here was like serving a long-term prison sentence. The pay is below average, finding out my bonus (if any) each year was the equivalent feeling of getting kicked in the groin. Throughout the year, you probably won't get to see the light of day and your social/family life will quickly disappear. During busy times most of us would work 80+ hours a week. That is just the beginning, most of the work is mind-numbing and soul-crushing; Also, if you want to advance then you will have to cheat the system and lie about your chargeable hours. Those who are honest about their chargeable hours will fall short of their peers and will be labeled 'slackers' and 'under-performers' Last but not least, there is more gossip and cliques in this place than when I went to high school. Everyone is constantly talking behind each others backs, whoever you may consider a friend is probably talking trash about you.

Pros

Fantastic team, everyone is extremely supportive and knowledgeable, you are never left to fend for yourself. This is an internship where you work as an integrated team member, working on projects that matter and help the firm, your never off grabbing anyone's coffee. Senior management is heavily involved in supporting your work efforts, I worked with Tom DeVitto the CMO and Liz Chasse the Director of marketing on multiple projects. Both are great individuals to learn from as well as very friendly and humble regardless of their seniority in the company. Stephanie Hughes and Jared Kotler head the internship program and they do a superb job making sure your workload never gets too overwhelming, and consistently take time out of their work to help explain new projects or help progress a current project forward. There are endless opportunities for new experiences ranging from Advertising, PR, Social Media, and learning essential marketing tools like HubSpot, Canva, SurveyMonkey, and even some Photoshop. I had the opportunity to learn how to take headshots as well. All and all I would say I’ve learned more in my summer here than my last 7 months interning at other internships. Great experience and I would absolutely recommend everyone with a positive attitude and a drive to further their early career, to apply to intern at blum.

Cons

No definite position opening after the internship is complete, not necessarily a problem due to the nature of experience you will gain for other employment.
