Pros
Bose has an interesting corporate culture, created and nurtured by founder Amar Bose. The company is engineering driven, seeking to identify the new customer experiences that can be delivered through technological progress. The company is privately owned, and plays for the long haul. One of the best things about working for Bose is the wealth of not only smart, but interesting people. Many of these people have been at Bose for a long time, some their entire career. That kind of loyalty seems rare these days. Another great thing about Bose is the strong music culture - a significant portion of the company are active musicians, and there are many opportunities to hear your co-workers express their musical passion. Bose is also one of the few companies to offer a fully funded employee pension plan in addition to a 401k. This is a valuable retirement contributor which is not always appreciated by those who have not done the math.
Cons
Bose has only recently realized that its primary product is no longer the hardware they deliver to their customers, but rather the experiences offered by the software which runs on and interacts with that hardware. The company is still learning how to adapt to this new world, and this affects everything from decision making, to product ideation, to product delivery schedules. While the great number of long term employees is an indication that the company is doing something right for its employees, there are also draw backs. At times the company seems to have bought too much into its own (internal) mythology, and needs to be better at taking a broader view and getting a broader perspective. To be fair, this is starting to happen.
