Headed in the wrong direction - District Manager CFIB / FCEI Employee Review

Pros

Meeting new people and interacting with Business Owners

Cons

The new pay structure is designed to ensure DM’s can’t succeed consistently. The monthly quota has increased, and there is very little valuable support from management to achieve the required goals. Management just regurgitates scripted phrases that don’t provide direction. Compensation for fuel is terrible and hasn’t been revised to allow for the current cost increase to the employee. With the new pay structure and increase to work load, balancing life and work has become extremely difficult. There is no way to take holidays without it negatively impacting the production/volume expectations in the field. Constant moving targets are of no help, and cause excess stress on the District Managers as they are under the gun every minute of the working day.

Thanks for the positive review. No surprise, but I agree with you that we have a positive working environment and some incredible people working for the Federation. I just wrapped up 2 days hosting our new colleagues from across Canada in our national office in Toronto. It was great fun and left me very confident in the new crop of staff we are bringing in across the organization.

Pros

Work for a great cause

Cons

Pay structure is capped everywhere, you have to always be a top sales person or you will never get anywhere, the top or nothing to survive on, you will burn out

CFIB / FCEI Response

Thanks for the feedback. I’m pleased that you identified with our cause at CFIB. Small business owners have really struggled this past year and I have been so impressed with how our team has responded with advice and support. We’ve just completed Zoom meetings with our teams across most provinces, and staff are consistently reporting how proud they are to work for CFIB at this critical time. I’m sorry that it appears your pay expectations were not met. The District Manager job is not always an easy one and needs to be treated as a full-time role. While things were particularly challenging over the past year (due to the need to contact business owners virtually for several months), I am proud to report that nearly 15,000 small business owners made the decision to buy a paying membership during the pandemic. With the unprecedented awareness and interest in CFIB, this certainly helped us attract new members despite the challenging economic times. While serving our members is our main focus, our entire senior management team is committed to making CFIB a great place for staff to work and earn a good living. I believe we do a really solid job of that, but I am always looking for input from current (and former) staff along the way. Thanks for writing.
