Pros

I wanted to write a fair and honest view of both the cons and pros of COCC. I think the company is OK. The first pro, which is also a con below, is the pay. It is a pro in that the salary offered here is NOT abysmal. I don't imagine many full-time workers here make less than $40k a year, which is at least enough to feed your family and pay rent. They also do actually have decent enough benefits for this, though the health insurance is the typical weak offering a lot of other companies do these days. Secondly, the people here are mostly great. There are always a few exceptions at any company, but they just seem to be good at getting friendly, positive people. There is usually some kind of fun event going on once a month, and you really do see a lot of smiling, happy people at them. Third, the building is nice and impressive, almost hotel-like in some areas. You don't feel like you are going to die of mold or asbestos poisoning like some offices. There is a nice cafe area to eat and generally speaking it does feel pleasant to physical be here. It is also a good area, right off the highway, safe, and with enough parking. Fourth, there is a lot of interesting stuff going on here in terms of work. COCC covers so many areas related to banking and its technology that you wouldn't even normally think about. It also means that if you are a good employee, there are a lot of areas you can laterally move into. And they really are about this, internal applicants over outside people. If you want to get more technical you can, or if you want to get more business you can. Lastly, I would say management are pretty good. Some of them are a bit out of touch with what goes on in the daily grind, but not complete jerks and at least aim to show some respect and value for employees at least through verbal recognition and nice attitudes.

Cons

The first problem is the pay. It is NOT the worst pay you will find in this area, which I listed as a pro, but it is low for this size company and this industry. Across the street is a similar sized bank that pays a far bit more for every role. Turnover is high here when people figure out they can make more money just by switching jobs, sometimes to easier jobs no less. The second problem is the the enforcement of policies . To start there is a policy that promotions can only happen every quarter, not every month. But some departments just didn't have to follow that, and you would regularly see someone get a promotion any random month, while others had to wait 3-6 months for their equally deserved promotion. Then we have working from home, which some groups seemed to do most of the week, others got a dedicated day, and others were not allowed it unless there was a special circumstance. Tell me how that makes sense when all of these employees had jobs that can be done remotely? My management tried to say our group needed to be in the office more (for better collaboration?) but that loses weight when we had several fully-remote employees on the team and would be working directly with people who were barely in the office to begin with. It really just comes down to politics and certain departments not trusting their employees as much as others, even if those employees are actually high performers. The company is trying to combat this with an "every other friday during the summer" work from home day perk, but that is laughable when you consider a lot of people already have a dedicated day or more every week, let alone what other tech companies offer. Another policy is that everyone needs to be in the office even in bad weather. That is fine on paper except when you fight snow to get into the office and the parking lot is 90% empty because a ton of people get to work from home instead. No, they didn't take PTO. I don't have a problem with any of those policies, but enforce them evenly or not at all. The last con was that there is a lot of uncomfortable nepotism going on. Almost every long-standing employee has a son, daughter, or some other relative or relative's friend they helped get the job. Some of these people were fine employees, so it is hard to be too mad at how they got here. But in other cases you would see people get hired who had no relevant degree or job experience for that role get hired, who probably wouldn't have even gotten the interview otherwise. So you then have a situation where these people get special treatment or have poor performance overlooked. It becomes uncomfortable because you see how pure merit does not mean that much here. I say these cons are all really annoying, but not show stoppers. You can do worse than COCC for sure.

Thank you for this insightful review! Although we can't respond to every comment listed here within this forum, we will say that this is the feedback that helps us to become a better employer. No workplace is perfect, and while we understand not everyone will have an equally great experience, we are always striving to improve our employee experience. We also think it's important to mention that we do encourage promotions on a monthly basis now, and we will be doing a better job of letting our managers know that. We also realize that we have had some inconsistencies with communication regarding some of our policies, so we are working on creating a more comprehensive, formal communication plan for every employee - but it's important to note that each team is unique in its work, staffing needs and structure, so many times it’s not possible for the entire company to follow one policy regarding schedule flexibility. Finally, we do encourage employees to refer folks in their personal circles to apply here. We believe our employees are such fantastic people that their recommendations for new employees really hold a lot of weight. Our employees love working here and sharing the love with their friends and family - and this is just one of the many factors helping to shape our incredible and unique culture here. Thank you again for all of your thoughts!

Pros

COCC is a fair call center workplace, there's enough to praise, but it is not without it's flaws. I'll start with some things I can say are pretty good! There's small bonuses given during the year, and starting pay is more than most call centers. Lots of Resources for learning call structures, and how our products work. Enough PTO hours throughout the year, including carry over from the prior year. Forma benefits for Full time and Part time. Days off on Xmas Day, 4th of July and Thanksgiving. Communication from Supervisors and colleagues is pretty good and most of the time clear. Colleagues can be very supportive and helpful whenever they can be!

Cons

Lack of communication with Clients/Banks. (Banks are always closed or busy when needing to contact them for help.) Customer attitudes are horrific, and much worse since tensions have been very high in the last 8 years with AI and other current events. You will get accused of working remote as if it is a bad unethical thing, and doesn't benefit poor people who struggle with mentall illness and disability. A little too much of a positive outlook on big projects, when lots of things go wrong 100 percent of the time. (But yet they do improve over time, so its more of a so-so thing.) Training is way too short, and probably needs more time and structure before sending people to do calls on their own. PTO is hard to use, and sick days are limited to 5 before you could be suspended. Blackout periods (AHOD weeks where you are forced to work) are also a lot of trouble especially when there might be alot going on in your personal life. This is possibly the hardest call center job, there is a lot of things you will learn about, and use during your time here. On top of that, customers can make things incredibly difficult.
