Pros

Some great projects if you hold out for them, and reputation amongst clients overall very positive.

Cons

- For all the procedures and peer reviews in place for performance management, it's just lip service. Consistency of standard required to get promoted varies; too many Consultants promoted to Senior Consultants at year-end has led to message that there will be stricter quotas at mid-year promotion round. - Accounts do not use the admittedly robust and descriptive competency frameworks. - Being based in head office and not at client site, and knowing certain Partners, is guaranteed promotion. Delivering good work at client site is a more challenging ask.

Thank you for your positive feedback on the quality of our projects and Capco’s reputation with clients. Regarding your point on performance management, the quality assurance measures we have in place, such as independent reviews of promotion cases, ensure that outcomes are fair and that the peer calibration process is robust. Our commitment to career progression is evident in our twice-yearly promotion cycles and in the faster average rate of career progression versus our competitors. At the same time, it’s common sense for any business to ensure that promotions fit with the company’s operating model and grade pyramid. So whilst we issue senior managers with guidelines to support a robust promotion process and ensure that they only nominate those who are ready to operate at the next level up, we don’t operate promotion quotas.

Pros

Varied client work — Different clients and project types, which keeps things interesting. Real project mobility — You can move between projects when you advocate for yourself (within reason). Approachable leadership — Senior leaders are open to conversations if you reach out. Good development resources — Plenty of training and growth opportunities if you take advantage of them. Strong teams — Colleagues are smart, capable, and great to work with. Entrepreneurial environment — New ideas are encouraged, and there’s room to take initiative.

Cons

Long hours vary by project — Like most any professional job, some engagements require extended hours for prolonged periods, but work–life balance really depends on the client and team. Additional internal responsibilities — Depending on level, there can be a significant amount of firm‑support work outside of client delivery. Domain alignment not guaranteed — You may not always be staffed on projects that match your domain expertise. Coaching alignment constraints — Coaching relationships are tied to domain, which limits flexibility in choosing formal mentors. Long engagements (sometimes) — Some projects run for long durations or through multiple extensions. It can provides stability but may reduce variety in client and project experience depending on what you’re looking for.
