Pros

There are groups of good people to work with. Vacation time. A good job to gain experience in a known employer.

Cons

Not a good long term employer. Low pay with no real raises. Staff and faculty are viewed as easily replaceable. Management/leadership has no real plan and bullies or threatens staff.

Pros

Carroll is a unique and historical setting, far different than you'll see most places. Nestled in historic Waukesha, the campus is practically its own little city. I really enjoyed the campus environment, the helpful and caring people that I got to work with, and the variety of work the role presented. The campus has a pretty clear mission so there isn't a ton of guess work on your overall goal and direction. My managers and many people across campus I felt always truly cared about me and took the time to hear me and understand any concerns or happy things happening in my life at or outside of work. Putting in my notice and my last month at the university was never a weird or awkward moment. They get that you move on to new opportunites and I'm grateful for so many supporting people around campus. One of the first things I noticed from day 1 to my last day was that the people at Carroll are just a different brand of nice. You don't get that at most employers. The work was pretty easy and enjoyable for the most part. AMAZING benefits with like 30 days off per year plus sick time and surprise time off during the holidays. All in all, I really enjoyed my time at this historic campus and wish them well in the future.

Cons

You can't really hide the fact that college enrollment is going down and that has put a strain on employees trying to do more with less. We're having to work harder to get students in the door without really seeing any benefits from doing a job other than "keep at it." With that there also has been a lot of re-structuring and layoffs of hard working and dedicated employees. A few head scratching moves but at the end of the day they are just business decisions. There is an academic calendar and sometimes the work follows that trend so if you're looking for a ton of variety, you won't really get that. Some projects vary but you'll most likely be doing the same things every year at the same time. Pay is historically on the bottom of the scale and if you hope to get promoted or a pay raise, you'll be waiting quite a while.
