Dedicated Public Servants Deserve Better Leadership - Data Analyst Chicago Inspector General's Office Employee Review

Pros

Brilliant coworkers, interesting work, purposeful work. Great insurance. 35 hr work week. New IG in 2026 might bring about some positive change. An unintended perk -- some members of management are so spectacularly inept that they occasionally provide comic relief during an otherwise frustrating workday.

Cons

Incompetent and often spiteful management, coupled with constantly shifting expectations, has created an environment of low morale and little trust. There are a handful of dedicated public servants who genuinely believe in the organization's mission and values, but they are overshadowed by leaders whose primary qualifications seem to be longevity and self-importance. Too many managers act as though their positions entitle them to unquestioned authority, despite demonstrating little competence, accountability, or experience outside this organization.

Pros

It was always pleasant going to work and interacting with colleagues from various sections of the office. The deputy inspector generals formed a strong leadership team that were highly involved throughout the office. A lot to learn, and a great place to grow!

Cons

Limited mobility in the office, but plenty of opportunities to learn and grow and move within the City.
