Really great place to work - Senior Backend Developer CivicActions Employee Review

I’ve worked for 5 companies in the past 15yrs of my career, and I’m really proud and honored to say this IS my favorite. Very human-centric. They are the embodyment of what EVERY company should deliver to their employees. Feels like a really big family!

The team is truly the heart of CivicActions. The people I’ve worked with are talented, thoughtful, and genuinely committed to doing meaningful work. There’s strong peer support, and flexibility have historically been solid.

Benefits used to be a pro, but 401k matching and ProDev was cut this year. While the mission and team are strong, the leadership culture has become increasingly disheartening. As you move closer to upper management, the cracks begin to show. Leadership, especially at the executive level, seems more focused on appearances than substance; offering cheerful messaging in public while privately making decisions that undercut employee trust. The company has lost key contracts, and rather than sharing openly or involving the team in solutions, the initial reaction was to quietly cut back on benefits and restructure without transparency. There’s a growing feeling of instability. Decisions are made in silos, performance narratives are being shaped without context, and long-time contributors are exiting or planning to exit. CivicActions once stood for transparency and inclusion, but recent actions suggest those values have been deprioritized in favor of control and optics. Do not get me started on their process of laying off our Canadian Team.
