Pros

Loved the team of baristas I worked with <3

Cons

*Ahem* I had a very disappointing experience working at Coffi Lab. I was let go during my probation period for being late due to something entirely out of my control. The reasoning given was that I failed to communicate early enough with the team, despite me contacting them as soon as I could under the circumstances. It was a stressful situation and I felt this context was ignored. It felt like an excuse rather than a genuine issue. There was no understanding, no flexibility, and absolutely no support. I was also told I required “prompting” to complete some tasks and that I “blew hot and cold” at work. I had been open with a supervisor from the start about struggles with ADHD like symptoms which I feel directly impacts my executive functioning and energy levels. Also I’m human??? Sorry for not being robocop at work. I was told that often I can be really ‘on it’ and work efficiently and sometimes I focus on one station too much. I had told someone in management that I can get tunnel vision on tasks so sorry I didn’t notice the two coffee cups on that far table in the empty cafe whilst my heads in the dishwasher and there’s 3 other people on shift - ya got me!!!! Rather than giving me a chance to discuss how my experience of Adhd like symptoms could be related or show understanding and offer any support, they just, fired me! I believe the decision to terminate my employment was completely unfair and reflects a lack of awareness or compassion for employees. In my view, Coffi Lab talks about community and inclusivity, but my experience suggests they fall short when it comes to actually supporting staff who are different. I’m sure Coffi Lab will respond and spew out some HR drivel but you heard it here first!!There’s a very similar terrible review of Coffi Lab posted in December 2024 which is very similar to my experience - in which they said they appreciated the feedback and would work on things…… well maybe it’s y’all that need the prompting hmmmmm??? I was a well liked, energetic, capable and hard worker. The standards they require for 20p above minimum wage is just unbelievable and it’s just not worth your time - if you’re thinking of sending them an application, think again!!! <3

Coffi Lab Response

What you refer to as HR drivel, others know to be the truth. Sometimes unfortunately we do have to make difficult decisions when it isn’t working out. These are never snap decisions and they will take onboard feedback from a number of sources. We have multiple review points, particularly in the early stages of employment to make sure that progress can be discussed, and improvements made when needed. There are open channels of communication and frequent visits from the support team to ensure that team members have the training and support that they need. This also ensures that there are options inside and outside of the store to raise concerns. We do have high standards. We want team members to be proud of this – we aim to provide a fantastic environment and level of service to our customers. The systems that are in place have been put together with the input of our very experienced teams. Investment is made to ensure that the store team have the best tools available to do their jobs. Our store teams are greatly appreciated. They are rewarded in a variety of different ways – incentives, company wide parties, training, discounts to name a few. We have team members who have celebrated multiple work anniversaries with us and many who after leaving us to go to uni return time and time again to support in the holidays.

Pros

I loved my coworkers, and found them easy to work with.

Cons

I think the coffee training process was too long, though I understand the rationale for it. However, there was never enough time to practice, and it became very frustrating.

Pros

Lots of support in place, such as coffee training, area manager, HR, managers calls to talk with other stores. A place where progression is encouraged, I went in as a barista, left as store manager.

Cons

Can get stressful with how busy it gets, but that’s hospitality
