Pros

The staff are brilliant, caring and hard working and they truly dedicate their efforts to improving the conditions of communities in South LA. CHC has a great history and the potential for being a great organization.

Cons

The staff that are recruited are not nurtured to grow. Instead, they are inundated with tasks (not all meaningful) until they are burnt out and are left with no choice but to seek employment elsewhere. Management has a bad habit of making sweeping promises about salary adjustments and professional development but they often under deliver. The process for moving up is not transparent, very inconsistent, and frankly appears unfair. Contractors and consultants are constantly brought on as a bandaid for the high turnover rate and it only leads to more chaos and disorganization. There is generally little to no trust between staff and management. Unfortunately, CHC did not feel like a safe workplace.

Pros

I have appreciated working with some very talented folks over the last 7 years and as an organization that cares about its members, we provide a benefits package that is an additional 25% of a staff's salary. It is a place that is creating and launching highly innovated initiatives and tools that are considered transformative in South Los Angeles and beyond.

Cons

Because the work at CHC continues to grow in complexity, the skills and expertise that is now required can feel hard for current team members. However, CHC is very committed to grown its people.

Pros

Outside of management, the staff are very hard working.

Cons

The organizational culture stands as a pivotal determinant of job satisfaction, yet regrettably, what prevails here is a culture rife with pitfalls and deceptively veiled intentions. The onboarding process masquerades is akin to a "wolf in sheep's clothing" – initially amicable, yet swiftly devolving into an insurmountable demand for ceaseless productivity. Enduring grueling 12 to 16-hour workdays amidst inadequate resources and insufficient staffing support becomes the norm, revealing but one facet of the organization's deficiencies. Participation in company-sanctioned events, advertised as geared towards fostering team building is heavily encouraged if one wants career advancement. However, given the heavy workloads staff must scrutinize how such engagements align with their professional objectives. Many of these initiatives lack relevance to one's role, instead cloaked in hollow rhetoric such as anti-racism and team solidarity. Moreover, the promotion of these activities feels disingenuous. Many have realized how office gossip will impact their day to day work experience at some point. For those inclined to contribute meaningfully to their communities, I highly recommend seeking out other organizations that resonate with your values and professional aspirations, as many of our own staff have been driven to do. I wish you and the organization, in hopes of a more enlightened trajectory moving forward.
