Pros

I worked at CMI for one year until I had to relocate -- would not leave if I could help it! From day one, the team made me feel welcome. I knew very little about the behind the scenes activities involved with commercial construction before starting, and could not have asked for a better introduction to this industry. CMI genuinely cares about the clients and seeing the projects through to their end while providing top-tier customer service. Dorothy and the management team are super approachable and always willing to answer any questions employees may have! Plus, tons of perks such as great benefits, snacks, team activities, and an overall fast-paced and fun work environment. 10/10 would recommend!

Cons

None -- I will miss this team immensely.

Pros

The biggest pros, hands down, are the people. I absolutely adore my co workers and with the small office atmosphere, we are honestly more like a crazy family. The benefits are a huge perk. 100% paid medical, vision and dental. 401K with company match. Gym membership. Monthly outings to things like ax throwing, bingo, escape rooms, mini golf, Austin tours etc. Birthday and holiday celebrations. They acknowledge everyone's birthday and we have office parties. We work (4) ten hour shifts, so it's super nice having weekends off and an extra day during the week.

Cons

Like any small business, growth opportunities and upward movement can be hard to come by.

Pros

When I worked here, the company offered good health insurance, which was a strong benefit. They also had an option to work four 10-hour shifts per week, which I appreciated for the work-life balance. However, the CEO frequently changed direction on whether this schedule would continue, so there’s a good chance it may no longer be offered.

Cons

The work environment was extremely toxic, largely due to the CEO’s unpredictable and micromanaging leadership style. Expectations were often unreasonable, with intense scrutiny over minor, inconsequential details that had no real impact on the company, employees, or customers. There was a constant feeling that any small mistake was catastrophic, which created a high-stress atmosphere. The CEO also frequently changed her mind, creating confusion and instability — she would enthusiastically support an idea one day and completely deny ever agreeing to it the next. Inappropriate conversations, gossip, and poor boundaries contributed to an uncomfortable and unprofessional culture at the top. While the managers of the operations and estimating teams at the time were excellent — supportive, professional, and genuinely caring — they are no longer with the company, so their positive impact may no longer be relevant. The pay was decent, but the mental and emotional toll often outweighed the compensation. Additionally, many customers were challenging to work with, often rude and unprofessional, which added to the overall stress of the role.
