Pros

The team atmosphere is wonderful and allows for each member of the company to feel supported, while at the same time taking ownership in different situations. Open communication is highly encouraged and utilized to achieve success at every level. We get to laugh and make awkward jokes while enjoying a relaxed dress code - all adding up to a very happy culture - must be why CMI made AJB'S "Best Places to Work" for 2015! When I began, i thought this place was a job - but after seeing all the positive changes and strides to the future and obvious commitment to the happiness of each employee, it has most assuredly turned into a career.

Cons

At times it can be stressful, however the new technology and staff development seemed to have greatly lessened that - some stress is expected at work, and at CMI, we put our LifeTime gym memberships to good use to get an hour break during the day to relieve that stress (company funded memberships, i might add!)

Pros

I worked at CMI for one year until I had to relocate -- would not leave if I could help it! From day one, the team made me feel welcome. I knew very little about the behind the scenes activities involved with commercial construction before starting, and could not have asked for a better introduction to this industry. CMI genuinely cares about the clients and seeing the projects through to their end while providing top-tier customer service. Dorothy and the management team are super approachable and always willing to answer any questions employees may have! Plus, tons of perks such as great benefits, snacks, team activities, and an overall fast-paced and fun work environment. 10/10 would recommend!

Cons

None -- I will miss this team immensely.

Pros

When I worked here, the company offered good health insurance, which was a strong benefit. They also had an option to work four 10-hour shifts per week, which I appreciated for the work-life balance. However, the CEO frequently changed direction on whether this schedule would continue, so there’s a good chance it may no longer be offered.

Cons

The work environment was extremely toxic, largely due to the CEO’s unpredictable and micromanaging leadership style. Expectations were often unreasonable, with intense scrutiny over minor, inconsequential details that had no real impact on the company, employees, or customers. There was a constant feeling that any small mistake was catastrophic, which created a high-stress atmosphere. The CEO also frequently changed her mind, creating confusion and instability — she would enthusiastically support an idea one day and completely deny ever agreeing to it the next. Inappropriate conversations, gossip, and poor boundaries contributed to an uncomfortable and unprofessional culture at the top. While the managers of the operations and estimating teams at the time were excellent — supportive, professional, and genuinely caring — they are no longer with the company, so their positive impact may no longer be relevant. The pay was decent, but the mental and emotional toll often outweighed the compensation. Additionally, many customers were challenging to work with, often rude and unprofessional, which added to the overall stress of the role.
