Pros
There are very few positives and reasons to work at Cooper & Dunham. However, you do get to work with some very high-level clients and there are many opportunities to learn a lot about prosecution and litigation.
Cons
Senior management has somehow managed to create a very negative work environment. The hours are long and the compensation is below industry average. There are very few opportunities to make partnership and most associates leave if they desire career advancement. Some of the partners can be gruff and unreasonable. They also have a tendency to treat both the associates and administrative staff as mere line items on an accounting balance sheet. For this reason alone, senior management provide next to no employee benefits. The high turnover and burnout rate also creates a chaotic environment as each new hire needs to be trained even as work piles up. Unfortunately, the partners either do not care about the work culture or they seem oblivious to the general staff dissatisfaction. The firm also does not seem to be growing and the partners seem overly satisfied with their client list. Without any growth trajectory, it is unlikely for associates to move up the career track. As such, partners also have no incentive to improve the work culture.
