Pros

Good salary, really nice people.

Cons

I was recruited to work on one specific contract, which is why I accepted the position. Shortly after arriving, found out that the contract was not going to renew, and most of the people in my unit, including the supervisor, were actively looking for another job. Despite having many years of experience, I never felt so stupid in my life. This company did no training whatsoever, and had such a dysfunctional computer system that I did not even bother to answer my phone for the first few days because I was trying to figure out the computer and would not have been able to have an intelligent conversation with anyone. Oh yeah - the desk that I was assigned to was so filthy dirty that i left the office, went to the store and bought disinfecting cleaning materials and had to sanitize the chair, desk, keyboard, computer, phone, everything upon return. Absolute filth. And I am not a clean freak. The utter refusal of management to provide me with any resources, manuals or other training had me looking for a new job within three days. The caseload of the desk I took over was so crazy out of control that there was no way I was going to get it under control. Ever. Especially with such a lack of support from management. To put it into perspective, the company accepted a contract in Canada. The day they went active in Canada, they hit a big snag in that the doctors in Canada expected to be paid in Canadian dollars, not US dollars. They were surprised to learn of that, had not thought of that, and did not know what to do. I handed in my notice about 6 weeks into the job. Even though I know I was doing a crappy job, mostly due to the dysfunctional technology and no training, they begged me to stay, acknowledging how poorly run the claims department was. Sorry but it was way too broke for me to fix.

Pros

Excellent pay structure to offset poor benefits and high healthcare costs. There is no Short Term Disability offered.

Cons

Management frequently lies to clients and employees about adjust case loads. Adjusted frequently experience case loads of 150 to 200 cases per desk. Management lies to clients regarding adjuster turnover and account managers are expected to lie as well. Alcohol is a big part of Corvel culture. During my first week of employment I was expected to drink with my regional VP and a client. During the conversation the client became extremely intoxicated and began mocking me. The VP looked on and said, none of this matters. This is just some hazing. Managers do not take the time to develop their cohorts. They bully people into working harder and taking on more than they can physically manage. When you make a mistake the response is not, let’s learn from this. The response is, do it again and you’re fired. This is common Corvel culture. This is very much a classic corporate greed structure that pushes people to their breaking points, fires them, and funds someone else to plug the hole.
