Pros
One of the biggest perks of my assignment was the travel. I spent the last 24 weeks in St. Augustine, Florida, and the location really made the experience. The hotel was only a couple of blocks from the beach, so I was able to enjoy the hotel pool after work and see the ocean on a few weekends that I stayed.
The company also has a generous travel policy, which allowed me to bring out friends and family. My parents were able to come down and spend some time with me, and my husband joined me for a few weeks as well. It definitely helped make work trips feel less like time away and more like a chance to make lasting memories.
Overall, the travel aspect gave me unique experiences and quality time with loved ones that I wouldn’t have expected from a work assignment.
Cons
On the downside, the benefits could use improvement. There’s no maternity / paternity leave offered, and because you’re on the road so much it can be challenging to actually use your medical & dental coverage. The lack of telehealth options makes it even harder to access care while traveling. You are on the road Sunday - Friday, so its almost impossible to make appointments unless they have Saturday options available or you can find someone in the town / city you're assigned to.
