Cons
A clear culture of burnout. Overtime is expected as standard, with no formal time off in lieu or additional pay.
During my first event, I worked until 1am and was back onsite by 6am for three consecutive days, with no compensation or realistic opportunity to recover the time. While management may suggest starting later the next day, the workload makes this impractical, so the extra hours are never actually balanced.
This pattern is not occasional, it’s systemic. Over time it had a significant impact on my wellbeing and made the role unsustainable.
Leaving was the right decision for me. I now earn more, work my contracted hours, and have a far healthier work-life balance.
