Pros

Easy way to get your foot in the door into the federal government. The pay is higher than the minimum wage and the co-workers are friendly.

Cons

The biggest issue about working at the commissary is that management refuses to accommodate to those who go to school. When I first applied to this job, it was listed as part-time. What I didn't know is that part-time is working FIVE DAYS A WEEK but 32 hours. I didn't know DECA suddenly stopped accommodating college students with their needs for classes and studying. What was the point of posting this position on USAJOBS not even mention that they don't accommodate to students with their school schedules. Have they posted that warning on their job listing, I would've never bother applying in the first place because I felt mislead. For some odd reason, it's really difficult to get approved leave or time off since you can do all the paperwork to get time off only for your supervisor to deny it. Because of this, cashiers just call out since requesting time off is fruitless.
