Pros

Good pay and benefits not much else

Cons

Unreasonable expectations. The work load is so heavy and the staffing and turnover is so bad that everyone is either crying or nasty to you. PTO is great except if you take it you are shamed and looked down upon. Systems do not work and it is creating additional work which is already stretched to the limit with the little staff. Working under 80 hours a week is looked down upon. When looking for guidance you are told you need to be a self starter but if you try to figure it out on your own you are basically told you are stupid. Hours are worse than the big four and no reward. Originally hired for 2 days in office but then was told last minute it is 4 days in office. I have never been treated by coworkers so poorly. Was told in an email if you have a simple question that it needs to be a meeting because they don’t have time to answer simple questions. I think this is due to the heavy workload and stress put on all employees. When going to HR about concerns you will just be ignored. When bringing concerns to management you are then treated even worse. When the CFO had concerns brought to him about the workload and turnover he told us that we need to be grateful to have employment and that the heavy workload weeds out the people they don’t want to work there. Threatened to lose your job constantly if you don’t follow procedures but there are no standard operating procedures. Just stay away if you know what is best for you. If you enjoy mean, overworked coworkers who treat you terrible and zero work life balance I guess this is the place for you. Would give 0 stars if I could

Pros

High-profile-looking office with free snacks

Cons

I was a legacy Duke Energy Renewables employee before it was sold to Brookfield and became Deriva Energy. In the two and a half years I spent at Deriva, I witnessed incompetency and toxicity on a level I wasn't aware was possible. Deriva Energy is not an energy company. It is a private equity firm. And, I mean that as the pejorative that it is. The aim, the vision of the company by my account seems to be a race to the bottom. What's the least we can invest in our people, in our infrastructure? What's the worst treatment that they'll tolerate? How many can we afford to watch walk out the door? I saw play out across multiple teams leadership setting unrealistic goals, burning out their talent until they left, and refusing to backfill them until work eventually ground to a halt. Over the course of 6 months, everyone in the org chart between myself and the CEO turned over. I witnessed a director undermine and sabotage the work of the managers beneath them to the point where all of their direct reports quit and an entire department was left without leadership. Executive-level management saw this and refused to step in. I refuse to believe anyone in C-suite cares. I think that's enough to paint a picture of the culture and state of Deriva Energy. If you're considering applying, please do yourself a favor and exhaust all other options before accepting a position here.
