Pros

For retail: good insurance benefits, strong 401K (excellent). If you are not college educated you can move up quickly (because everyone quits). You can come in as a part timer and be a store manager (47.5K) in 6 months if not quicker....

Cons

You are more loss prevention district manager than ops DM. You can't get your stores fixed as your to busy with LP and HR. Very frustrating job. Stores get broken and you get very little hours in stores. If your looking for a professional District Manager job, run away fast from dollar general. This is 6 days a week, no life balance and major turnover at store manager and store associate level. Always always hiring.....

Pros

The job itself is easy. The cash register, stocking (especially the totes and dry truck) and cleaning are so simple however there are certain things that make it difficult, although the work itself is not (under the right circumstances.)

Cons

They never have enough people on shift so it’s always difficult to get things done. It seems like all the managers I know from the store I worked at and the surrounding ones are all so deep into drama it made me wonder if I was back in high school. Dry truck always seems to bring far too much and the stores are so little that overstock is a huge issue here. The reason I ultimately left was due to severe mistreatment and some safety concerns I had regarding some past experiences. I am very glad I left and I would not ever go back.
