Pros

Opportunity to transition between departments are fairly easily to obtain, but only below manager level. Covered parking. On-site cafeteria with decent food and excellent staff, though old and outdated dining area. Probably a great place to work if you want to sit in a low level job and work a flat schedule your whole career without having to learn new skills. On-site gym that is very cheap. On-site daycare for people with kids who care about that, though I'm told it is expensive.

Cons

Office located in Goodlettsville. Presence in the community is not near as strong as the company flaunts. Offices are outdated with old furniture and dirty carpet, have seen little to no renovation in what is now a 17 year old building. Horribly strong traditional office culture. Cubicles, closed off meeting spaces, unnecessarily long meetings and a staff unwilling to deter from legacy behavior. Lack of technology. Technologically advanced at DG SSC means you can use MS Excel skillfully, and most employees cannot. Simply not an innovative company, lead by grind-it-out style leadership. Favoritism toward employees with children. Little issue with someone constantly being out of office because of kid issues, but if you have no children leadership doesn't understand what you might possibly have to do except work. Big corporate. Slow to achieve anything. Current CEO has no presence at the office and has driven the degradation in company's culture.

Pros

The job itself is easy. The cash register, stocking (especially the totes and dry truck) and cleaning are so simple however there are certain things that make it difficult, although the work itself is not (under the right circumstances.)

Cons

They never have enough people on shift so it’s always difficult to get things done. It seems like all the managers I know from the store I worked at and the surrounding ones are all so deep into drama it made me wonder if I was back in high school. Dry truck always seems to bring far too much and the stores are so little that overstock is a huge issue here. The reason I ultimately left was due to severe mistreatment and some safety concerns I had regarding some past experiences. I am very glad I left and I would not ever go back.
