Pros
- Salaried position, the checks cleared. - Okay company to work for right out of college, don't stay here too long. - The employees themselves aren't that bad, management is the problem. - End of year gift card. - Reimbursement for certifications. - Company-provided shirts/uniforms. Doing training (watching videos at home / taking quizzes) during snow days and certain school-closure days. - Make-your-own schedule while at school / providing support. - Relatively low-pressure environment (depending on the school district). - Work-life balance is pretty good. Not expected to handle tickets/calls outside of working hours.
Cons
- Toxic work culture - Base salary is low, expect an entry level salary for 2-4 years. - Little-to-no initial training. The training comes from shadowing employees. - The training is only as good as the employees that you're shadowing. If the employee that you're shadowing has poor work ethic, poor customer service skills, or doesn't give you anything to do, your training process won't be that informative. - Management openly favors certain employees, management only gives projects and responsibilities to favored employees. Looking to pick up some new skills or get your hands on new technologies? Too bad. You won't be given a chance to work with them. The new projects only go to the favored technicians. - Career opportunities limited due to favoritism. Promotions only occur when higher positions open up. No higher positions open up, no promotions. - Management does not give performance reviews, period. No annual review. - Don't expect a raise, salary increase, or cost of living increase. - Don't expect to be appreciated or recognized for hard work from management. - Summers are brutal. - Management does not appreciate high-quality customer service, only appreciate doing things as fast as possible without error. - With the direction that schools are moving, 90% of the work is Chromebook repair / management, not a whole lot of actual IT work. - No documented procedures - Average tenure is about 1-2 years, if that. Employee turnover is extremely high.
