Cons
Was contacted for a Senior Frontend role, went through the process, and was asked to complete a take-home assessment. I spent two full days building it properly, through the night with no sleep, submitted it and then silence. Complete ghosting for over a week. I had to chase them myself asking for an update — only to receive a copy-paste rejection saying the role had been “closed” and they’re “no longer actively recruiting.” No explanation. No apology for wasting a candidate’s time. No acknowledgment that they had me invest my time of unpaid work into a role that apparently no longer existed. The bigger picture: Unfortunately, as candidates we just have to eat this. There are no meaningful laws — even in the EU — that protect people from this kind of abuse of the hiring process. Companies can demand days of unpaid work from you and walk away with zero consequences. That needs to change. If you’ve had a similar experience - speak up, and make it visible. The only power we have right now is collective — making sure other candidates know what they’re walking into and pressuring companies through their employer brand. We need to fight for better standards in hiring.
