Pros

I worked for Evolution7 for a short while as a sub-contractor, providing development services to the agency's portfolio of clients remotely from the UK. The agency had most of its staff in Melbourne and a small team dotted throughout Europe. Everyone I dealt with at the company from top to bottom was competent, enthusiastic and helpful, despite the time-differences and associated challenges that brought. As a developer I found the work to be varied and challenging, covering everything from CMS website development to single-page JavaScript applications and custom Shopify themes. The clients were also quite diverse, from small independent businesses to large-scale companies with very different requirements and expectations. This kept the work interesting and provided opportunities to learn new skills and gain new experience, which is something developers should always look for in their roles. I enjoyed the work I did for Evolution7, and the standup video calls with the team in Melbourne when the time-difference wasn't so big in the spring and summer months. I was able to learn a lot from the other developers too, and provided some support and mentorship to more junior developers on the team.

Cons

Having two teams working on opposite sides of the globe was difficult, especially when providing IT support for clients based in Australia. Having to wait for hours to know if the work you just completed was effective and met the clients expectations was really stressful at times, leading to checking of emails or Slack at odd times of the night. I worked with the various project managers to try to ease those pressures via detailed handover notes, but inevitably I did work beyond my contracted time quite often in a bid to set my own mind at ease, which caused a bit of burnout by the end of my contract. That is just the nature of remote work though, and the agency did resolve to start limiting the outsourcing of work beyond Australia around the time that my contract ended.

Pros

Flexible working during COVID. Ending now as new additions are expected to be in an empty office (because nobody wants to go) at least 3 days per week.

Cons

First of all, don't be fooled. Lots of the positive reviews are written by current employees that have no other option but to make up a reality that doesn't exist per management request. -No perks, contrary which what is promised during interviews. -You can’t live up to client's expectations. They are told straight-up lies. -Resources are never enough for the amount of work which leads to the team stressing out, working long unpaid hours and angry clients. -Most of the team of developers/designers are overseas or contractors work full time for project. Very inconvenient for Melbourne based clients and staff. -Flexible hours and “minimum” contact with people overseas are promised, but this is not the case. Definitely no work-life balance. -Expect you to solve tasks that are not even project management related: Invoicing and phone calls (no office manager), legal and sale contracts (no sales team) and support (no support team). -The lack of support and culture is absurd. You are given the cold shoulder when you raise the problems described above. -False promises are made all the time to clients and to staff. -Absolutely no career development at all. -Salaries are below market. -High staff turnover due to people being burnt out and impossible deadlines. - Management had actions and behaviour that can be seen as bullying.

Pros

Culture - Amazing studio space - Team lunch every Friday - Flexible start times - Ability to work from home - VR and games lounge - Quality banter - Free pilates - Every Tuesday someone is nominated to bring in a food dish for the team - Sonos speakers - Friday drinks in the studio - Barcelona office (good excuse to travel) Business - Management are transparent to staff and clients - There's always a genuine investment in your professional development and skills with staff going to workshops and events - Strong internal processes and documentation in the form of an internal wiki - Happy to purchase software or platforms if they are needed - They don't say yes to all new clients and will knock back businesses that they don't believe in or are unethical Couldn't recommend this place any more.

Cons

- There is no longer an office dog
