Pros

Very good training for marketing reps. Potential for high compensation. Culture of promoting from within. Good place to get a foundation in insurance knowledge and sales skills.

Cons

Federated’s business model is not geared towards retaining clients or employees. You will not be able to build long-term relationships with most of your clients because Federated will eventually force them away with unreasonable rates, or idiotic decisions from underwriting. The hours will also be grueling. Upper management is disconnected from reality, or pretends to be for their own reasons. There is a cult-like atmosphere that everyone pays lip-service to, but is actually a joke. Life insurance will ALWAYS be the most important metric the company judges you by, and the LEAST profitable way to spend your time. Lots of training is provided for marketing reps, but not enough for other departments. Many of the support personnel do not know their jobs, or simply aren’t very good.

Pros

Hands down, the best employment culture of any company I’ve worked for in my 25+ years practicing law. Federated is a true rarity - a company that genuinely lives its corporate values every day, in decisions both large and small. Leadership listens to employees with curiosity and a willingness to improve, not defensiveness or indifference. There’s a common refrain that if a company takes care of its employees, those employees will, in turn, take care of customers. I’ve never seen that philosophy embraced or executed as successfully as it is at Federated. Success is recognized and rewarded, teamwork - or “interdependence,” as we call it - is the norm, and challenges or setbacks are treated as opportunities for constructive feedback and growth. And that’s before even mentioning the outstanding compensation and benefits. I recommend Federated wholeheartedly and without reservation to friends and family.

Cons

Business formal dress code for more senior positions may be a bit antiquated.
