Pros
Learned about business taxes, high worth clients, and types of business forms.
Cons
No guidance, little feedback if any. Manager procrastination concerning reviewing tax returns before final processing causes overtime which they don’t pay because you are exempt. They are not a CPA firm so I don’t think they should be able to do that. Also, the work environment was toxic as the manager let the office manager treat the tax accountants in an abusive manner, and blamed the tax accountants with any problems with her. Also, there is no generous PTO - it’s by manager discretion and they don’t let you go beyond your vacation and sick leave hours.
The compensation is lower than market, the raises are barely to the cost of living percentage, and the 401k match is awful- they match 1% of your yearly salary as long as you contribute 4%.
In the last year I was employed the branch lost some major clients, and was losing money. Th manager decided to put just the tax accountants on a PIP, with no prior evaluations in the last 2 years.
