Pros
Very flexible with hours and availabilities, unless it's a holiday weekend then you're working for sure. $9.50 an hour makes sense as a starting wage and for a part time student working over the summer. Coworkers make an effort to be friendly and make everyone feel welcome, and this can be said about select managers as well. The brand's values really appealed to me, which is why I started working there. I always felt inclined to do what's best for the customer, which is what our training manager insisted when I first started working there and it always stuck. And, the employee discount is fantastic.
Cons
Your day truly depends on who your LOD is during your shift, I have one who is fantastic, supportive and truly cares about her employees and the customers, as well as sales and GCs. I have a couple others who care only about Gap cards and sales, and not about customer experience and employees. We also get a lot of bratty customers, but that is never the company's fault. I was also surprised to hear the top two LODs talk behind a lot of my coworkers' backs, and even complained about them to other sales associates. It definitely made me feel less inclined to trust those LODs. I've also noticed that the quality of the clothing itself has gone down, and this has been noticed by our customers too. Additionally, I feel sleazy selling and pushing Gap cards, especially when customers talk about already being able to pay off other credit cards. Management could be better, feeling bullied doesn't make a sales associate feel driven to get sales.
