Great people but no raises make it hard to work for GP for more than 3 or 4 years. - Anonymous employee Georgia-Pacific Employee Review

Pros

In the few years that I have worked at the Georgia-Pacific Port Hudson facility I met and worked with some very good people. The hourly workers were hard working and want the facility to make money, but senior management usually gets in their way. The starting salary is pretty good compared to other paper mills but not as good as the chemical plants in the surrounding area.

Cons

It is very difficult to get a raise at GP Port Hudson. Very few salaried people in my department have had a raise in the past 5 years, and the so called "performance pay" is pretty dismal. The management philosophy is to award raises based on value created for the company, but value creation is rarely the prerequisite for a raise. Instead, those individuals that do get the raises are buddies with the senior management team. The lack of raises lead to a unusually high turnover rate because the Port Hudson facility is located in a high growth and high pay manufacturing area. Senior management expects the salaried employees to work 50 - 60 hours a week but offer little to no incentives for the employees, other than fear for your job.

Pros

Schedule, flexibility, pay, co- workers, relationships

Cons

No COLA, annual reviews pushed back, comp reviews consistently pushed back even further. Non value added meetings & ‘fluff’ with Koch book reading requirements (which directly conflict in the respect philosophy when it comes to comp reviews), no consistency in business units- ie. Moving from one to another group a vast difference in how they treat/respect employees
