Cons
Speaking only from my personal experience, I would encourage anyone considering a role at Hapana to think carefully before accepting an offer. During my time there, I observed what seemed to be relatively high turnover during the probationary period. From my perspective, a key issue was the leadership culture. There appeared to be a noticeable divide between some remote leaders and headquarters, and I perceived social dynamics that did not feel particularly healthy or professional. Decisions often appeared to be made by a small group of people, which made a mid-sized company feel quite closed and difficult to influence. Although the company promotes an open culture where questions and feedback are welcome in the interview process, my own experience was different. When I provided what I believed was constructive and carefully worded feedback, I felt it was not well received at all, and I perceived a change in how I was treated. In my view, long-standing employees were often favoured because it may be easier, and new or different ideas about ways of joint working did not seem especially welcome. I also found that knowledge distribution (from long-standing employees) was not subjectively prioritised, even in teams and functions where I would have expected it to be a core focus. Culturally, I often heard a narrative about being able to “solve problems in the chaos”, which, in my opinion, will become a reason not to invest in better ways of working again and encourages a accept the status quo "until we get there" kind of approach. For a tech company, the office culture often felt somewhat regressive to me. There was increasing emphasis on being in the office more often, and I would not be surprised if expectations moved to four days in-office. Compared with other workplaces I’ve experienced, general support and perks for a company of this tenure were fairly minimal for now - for example, no provided lunches yet, no pets welcome, limited ergonomic support, and basic tools (such as a headset) were effectively BYO. Hopefully this changes! Expectations of performance were high, but in my experience the technical guidance (that comes from being a long standing employees knowing the ins and out) and backing provided did not match those expectations. I personally did not genuinely feel particularly valued or appreciated (though I acknowledge some departments may have a different culture) which affected my motivation to work harder. Overall, based on my experience only, I would be cautious about joining this organisation, especially if you are early in your career and/ or prioritise a diverse, stable, and supportive environment.
