Pros

Committed program staff, kids were amazing! Doing really impactful programming across several sites in Harlem, teaching sustainable practices and providing access to micro green spaces.

Cons

Like other reviews have stated, leadership is toxic and lacks focus/direction. Roles are ill-conceived; the job title implies one focus, but the expectation is that you take on the functions for 2-3 full-time roles. When it is brought to the attention of management that they would have more impact if they planned and budgeted their team growth, we are told to deal with it and held to unreasonably expectations. This has led to a high degree of turnover in the development team in just 1-2 years. Lot's of gaslighting from the senior development leader, who is not wholly competent in their role and seems to still be in the role due to the odd favoritism roulette others have mentioned. Run away from this dumpster fire.

Pros

I arrived to HG during a time of great upheaval. Think poor management, disorganization at the leadership level, and high employee turnover. During my time there, leadership was replaced with people who seem smart, organized, competent, and collaborative. By the time I left, they'd put in a lot of effort to mop up the messes their predecessors left, greatly improving employee morale. For the most part my team consisted of warm, passionate people who cared about the mission of the organization and wanted to make a positive impact. The work was challenging, but it was great to be part of an organization that is making an impact. I hope they continue to grow in a positive direction!

Cons

Budgetary constraints, insufficient trainings (this was changing by the time I left), no curriculum to teach from (this was also changing by the time I left), highly stimulating and emotionally draining work. I saw huge improvements in the level communication and organization, but there's still room to grow here!
