Pros

Health Catalyst is like the friend that everybody needs. I'm a new mom and a seasoned employee and this past year has been the most challenging yet rewarding year of my life as I navigated the waters of attempting to balance motherhood and my career. There were many ups and downs, but I can wholeheartedly say that the Health Catalyst culture was always there to support me. As many women might be able to relate, telling your employer that you’re pregnant can be stressful no matter who they might be. Something about telling the person who supplies your paycheck that you’re going to need some time off, preferably paid, and will come back in a few months a whole new person, can be frightening. Not at Health Catalyst. In a time when I needed support the most, Health Catalyst was there to offer theirs. I quickly became a member of the momma_life Slack channel and was humbled by the beautiful community of mothers within the company. When I returned to work, the thought of being away from my baby for long periods was initially too much to bear. Thankfully, Health Catalyst promotes values such as putting your family first and a flexible work environment. In fact, there were a few times when my son made an appearance at Zoom meetings, and I’ll never forget the patience and kindness my teammates extended to me with open arms. When I fell into postpartum depression, Tava (one of the great benefits they offer) was there to help with their online therapy sessions. Finding a therapist can be overwhelming, especially when waiting until the last minute. Tava made it easy, and I would have never known about this wonderful platform if it weren’t for Health Catalyst. I can happily say that the help of this benefit, along with other factors, has aided tremendously in my postpartum depression recovery! The first time my son got sick, he wanted nothing more than to be with his mom. The supportive and understanding culture at Health Catalyst allowed me to be with my son at a moment’s notice. My teammates were incredibly understanding when I had to put work on the backend for a few days. They have been extremely supportive this entire journey. That’s the Health Catalyst way. When I had baby weight to lose and felt insecure, I frequented the gym at our South Jordan office. It is a beautiful, clean facility that offers excellent instructor-led classes. Not having the anxiety of signing up for a new gym after having a baby was a huge, yet often overlooked, relief for me. I found happiness coming into the office anytime my schedule allowed for it. After the isolation from a pandemic and a new baby, the office felt like my second home. A place I could come to connect with others when my son went to daycare. My favorite part of the office are the Mothers’ Rooms. Each room has a comfortable chair, mini-refrigerator, and calming atmosphere. The fact that those private rooms were available to me at the office meant that I felt included and invited, no matter what my needs as a mother were. I could probably go on all day about how Health Catalyst supported me as a new mother - battling the polarity of wanting to keep her career while also focusing on this beautiful new life that was brought into the world - but I think what I am trying to say is thank you, Health Catalyst. Thank you for the amazing company culture and for setting the bar for other organizations, especially regarding delicate topics such as maternity/paternity leave and return.

Cons

Could use more focus on base salaries for existing team members.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful and encouraging feedback. Your experience as a working mom is certainly what we strive to enable, and is a specific example of the way in which we want every team member at Health Catalyst to feel valued, loved, cared for, respected, and provided with flexibility and support in their work and in their lives. Thank you for sharing these uplifting comments. These are challenging times for the world, for our nation, for our economy and for health care. It's refreshing and energizing, even amidst these challenges, to find the good, to express gratitude, to see the positives. This is living the Health Catalyst Way, and I'm thankful for your example. Also, we'll keep focusing on base salaries for existing team members -- absolutely! Best, Dan

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I appreciate the thoughtful recognition of our collaborative culture and the meaningful work the team does together. How we work together matters just as much as what we do. Our operating principles and cultural attributes remain foundational. To address your concerns about processes and roles, as the organization evolves, we’re prioritizing clarity in these areas to better support teams. There’s real momentum building right now, and the work ahead is meaningful. I’m grateful for you and the role you play here, and I’m excited about what we’re building together.

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
