Pros

- Flexibility to work from home or anywhere with a good enough internet connection. - Despite all that I'm discouraged by, I believe leadership's intentions are good and that they genuinely are trying to do what they can to counter many of the challenging circumstances the company faces.

Cons

- Distracting and divisive culture wars have crept into the company communication channels and meetings. Leadership is very one sided in their participation and makes the divisiveness worse rather than better. When the outrage mob demands leadership address their concerns, they do it. When the mob isn't satisfied and they demand leadership send a message that more firmly enforces their biases, leadership does it. When anyone, even respectfully, voices an opposing view, they're shouted into silence. - I've been gaslighted by middle management multiple times in the last year. - I've been discriminated on the basis of gender and religion (not mormon favoritism that other reviewers have talked about) during my time here. - Layoffs have become a regular thing. They've gone from almost never occurring to yearly, to a twice yearly thing. At this rate they'll be quarterly by next year. - Our tech stacks are outdated. The longer you work here, the less qualified you become to get a job elsewhere. - Poor integration across departments and business units with regular in-fighting among different teams. - Little to no cross training and increasing turnover which result in a bad working environment for those who remain. - A major shift over the last couple years from putting people before profits like we used to do toward putting profits before people, but still talking as if people are first. - Benefits continue to be cut and policies for taking advantage of benefits that remain continue to get more and more constraining. - Equity based compensation is severely devalued to the point where it's another form of pay cut. I realize this is market dependent and like inflation, is out of leadership's control. None the less it is a con of working here right now.

Health Catalyst Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback with me. It is clear from your review and your experience that we have a great deal more work to do to improve as a company, in enabling every team member who is committed to the Health Catalyst Way to feel welcomed, loved, respected and appreciated. That is my hope and desire, for every team member at Health Catalyst. I'm frustrated by the way that "culture wars" play out in our broader society, and seem to lead towards incivility and a lack of listening to one another, and a lack of respect for one another. There is also not enough of a focus on what we have in common, and where we can build bridges and become more united. That has been my goal at Health Catalyst -- enable us to build bridges, show respect to one another, listen first, care for one another, and live the Golden Rule. Clearly, we have a lot more work to do here, based on your experience. That can feel discouraging for many team members, myself and yourself included. I do strive to put team members first, to focus on team members and their engagement and their experience every day. But I'm not perfect, and I make mistakes and fall short, and for that I apologize. And we fall short as a company and as team members, often. And ultimately, I am accountable for any instances where we fall short of our mission, our operating principles, our cultural attributes, and our strategy. And I don't offer any excuses for that, but rather, take accountability for this. I will commit to keep working to improve, first in my own personal behavior, and then as a leader responsible and accountable for our company's performance and progress. I appreciate every team member who is willing to similarly work and fight and strive to contribute to the company's success, and I hope this will include you, working to help our company become better every day. Best, Dan

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
