Pros

-You get to drive nice cars around. -Great discounts on rentals (even though you probably rarely need them) -You will learn a lot.

Cons

Where to begin.... First off....the pay. $10.50/hr. for the amount of work you do is a complete joke for a manager. Expect to be working insane hours (55+ minimum) for terrible pay. It would be ok if the job wasn't too stressful but you will ALWAYS be on the go. Oh and good luck getting a lunch break.....those are very, very rare. I am NOT against working hard at all, but I literally would be so busy I would almost have to sprint everywhere I went just to keep up. Hertz is just overboard. So needless to say, you social life suffers considerably. The bonus structure. When you are hired expect to hear all about the bonus potential and how amazing it is. Don't believe ANY of it. The bonus structure changes every other week. It's so complicated not even upper management can decipher it. You will literally have almost no idea how much you will be getting. Some MTs would get a quarterly bonus of $1000 (which is still pretty bad considering base pay) while others MAY get $50. Supposedly I have heard they have reverted back to a monthly bonus as well but I am not sure how good it is. It's all about selling. Pushing the coverage on the customer. While I have no problem selling them, if you miss a sale, expect to be ridiculed if a customer does not purchase coverage from you even if you do the whole thing by the book. It's ALL about numbers with Hertz. You will hear about it every other second. If your numbers are not up to par expect to be stuck on conference calls explaining yourself to higher management. They do not hesitate to terminate employees whose numbers are lacking. Expect to also be understaffed. With the amount of stress there is for so little pay, people do not stick around very long. For some reason, even in this economy Hertz has issues keeping their stores staffed. So in an average day expect to be doing all the paperwork, washing/vacuuming cars, picking up customers, picking up cars, and selling just for starters. (God help you if you are in the warmer states in the summer because you MUST wear a long sleeve dress shirt and tie at most locations). I personally have had to close the store, run and pick up a customer, come back do the paperwork, clean the car, and send them off by myself MANY, MANY times. Upper management is absolutely oblivious as to why they cannot hold staff. If they simply treated the staff with some respect, it would make a world of difference. I could go on and on but I think you guys get it....STAY AWAY.

Pros

It is possible to make a difference if you are determined enough. Many engineers work hard and most try.

Cons

The company has a ton of tech debt that it recognized, but is not being addressed. Management controls the time, scope and so quality is falling. The people they have hired lack fundamentals understanding of software development practices. The company often will make decisions to save small amounts of money with their facilities and tools they give to employees without understanding the opportunity cost that was lost. Overtime is required. You can't work here if you want to have a family or keep your family from hating you. Title inflation is real. Many people are actually performing one level down from their stated title and those that are not are only not failing due to putting in crazy hours. Middle management wont stickup for their people to ensure they are not burning out. They see it happening multiple times in front of them and they do nothing.
