Pros

Great mission, enjoyable perks and office, lovely coworkers.

Cons

Leadership is weak. Much of the company's lip service around caring about people and the planet is for marketing value and little else. When COVID-19 hit, Hipcamp decided almost immediately (early April) to cut nearly half of its staff, and now bookings are skyrocketing -- go figure. Rather than waiting a few weeks to see how the situation would pan out, the company made it clear it cares about profit above all else. This is not a values-led company. It's a company like any other, so don't expect much beyond that. Plus: be prepared for plenty of micro-aggressions and little in the way of support if you're a person of color.

Pros

Some incredibly smart people to work with and learn from. Great work/life balance and perks especially for outdoor enthusiasts.

Cons

Overall culture leaves much to be desired. New hires are thrown into the deep end to see if their work style lets them float or sink in their established pool of team dynamics. Most employees seem to be veterans of the company seeing 5-8 years tenure with little action to continue hiring and growing the team; also made evident by the lack of any team-specific onboarding process. Expected to self-onboard based on outdated documentation and company’s slack history. Company normalizes operating on minimal resources and expects employees to take on several hats outside of their role for every project or task assigned to them.
