Pros

Really smart and determined employees. Could be at much better companies, where they are more valued and respected. Unfortunately, it feels they are just looking for their next paycheck for the moment, which I can only respect. HR was friendly.

Cons

Coming in with multiple marketing degrees and working under great managers throughout my career, THIS management thinks they understand email, social media, editorial and digital marketing. There is no marketing team, which means there is no collaboration opportunities or even a strategy. Then again, there was no effort for management to even put together an approved annual marketing budget. Matter of fact, I couldn't believe management pretended to be unaware of anything happening in the marketing department before I arrived. This was a huge red flag. Instead, they always blamed others in marketing positions, previously. They are seriously doing a disservice to their sales teams. There is no Facebook page - another red flag. Poor office hour flexibility as a salary employee. 401K only after 6 months, which had a very low match compared to competitors. Majority of employees don't have laptops, as work from home (if desired) is out of the question. Can't eat lunch at your desk, because management doesn't like the "smell." Didn't have an exit interview. Was told several times "just keep your head down." Everybody moves soooo SLOW, so upward mobility is not there. Terrible office location. Management has time to watch and listen to people on cameras throughout the office. NO COMPANY CULTURE.

We appreciate you taking the time to share from your brief tenure at HIWIN. We are disappointed that you did not have a positive experience. We have seen a lot of changes in this department. However, this has given us a great opportunity to bring in the right team members with energy, skills and creativity. We are also very proud of our team for being able to keep up operations while going through these transitions. It is a testament to their resilience and dedication to Hiwin. All managers at Hiwin US encourage independence, collaboration and respect – not micromanagement. There is trust in team members that they are making decisions based on Hiwin’s best interest. In addition, we have an open-door policy, in which we always encourage continuous feedback. Initially, new team members rely on their leader’s guidance to integrate effectively and support team goals. With the understanding that respecting established leadership decisions when new to a team, one will gradually contribute more independently as they gain context, build trust and understanding. Furthermore, we have well-defined processes and procedures in place to ensure that all decisions are made transparently and consistently. We are located in Huntley right off of I-90, which is easy to find and navigate too, as we have team members commuting from all over the Chicago suburbs. Thank you for your candor and we have since shared your concerns with our Leadership team. We understand that it is a choice to join our Hiwin team and that sometimes it may not be the best fit.

Pros

There are many really great people working under this roof who could be even better with the right leadership.

Cons

Toxic micromanagement. Every decision goes through one person. For a company of its size, there are too many people who leave or get terminated. This is mostly because when you get micromanaged to the point where you second guess everything and are held accountable for decisions made by someone else, you stop caring. The message in most meetings… “do what I want or I’ll fire you.” Certainly does not create a great environment for productivity.

We appreciate you taking the time to share about your time at HIWIN. We are disappointed that you did not have a positive experience. Our goal is to foster and maintain a stable and cooperative work culture. At Hiwin US, our workplace culture prioritizes independence, collaboration, and respect – not micromanagement. We empower teams by leading through clarity, structure, and established training processes. Initially, new team members should rely on their leader’s guidance to integrate effectively and support team goals. With the understanding that respecting established leadership decisions when new to a team, one will gradually contribute more independently as they gain context, build trust and understanding. In addition, we have well-defined processes and procedures in place to ensure that all decisions are made transparently and consistently. Communication is key in a company of this size, so it is important especially for team members and managers, still in the training phase, to properly understand the reasons why certain procedures or decisions are made. With the ultimate goal, that when a team member, of any level, will be able to make decisions based off of what is best for Hiwin. Furthermore, we continue to manage team member turnover and improve retention outcomes. At Hiwin US, we have an open-door policy, in which we always encourage feedback, including through to exit interviews. Even with your short tenure (less than six months) with our organization, we take your input seriously, and we will share it with our leadership team so that we can improve our team. If you would like to share more you can reach out to hr@hiwin.com.
