Pros

Because there is no physical office, all work was done fully remotely.

Cons

If you're looking for a company that values talent and hard work keep looking—this isn't the place. Advancement here is based purely on how well you get along with upper management, not your skills or contributions. If you're not in their inner circle, expect to be overlooked and stuck in the same position indefinitely. There’s no HR department, which means any concerns or issues have to go straight to the higher-ups. But don’t expect any real solutions—just a frustrating runaround that leads nowhere. The company culture rewards flattery over performance, so if you're the type who thrives on genuine effort and integrity, this will be a dead end. However, if you're skilled at excessive schmoozing, you might just do well here. If you have a strong personality and want to be valued for your work, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Pros

Recently started with Hornbill - some first impressions. The interview process via video calls ran smoothly, home setup with kit and software was spot on. My colleagues in marketing are highly motivated - and entertaining! I’m enjoying working with them on a range of projects across digital and website. I’ve worked with the CMO before - Nigel really makes sure you understand the value of what you are working on to the team/business. I’m finding expectations are clear. My remote day includes zoom meetings, conversations and chat around tasks and feedback. Curiously Hornbill seldom use email internally for communication, which though it took a few days getting used to is a great time saver. The culture is one of collaboration and transparency; great attributes for ensuring energies are focussed on driving business forward. It does ‘feel’ like a big team. From the CEO down everyone is encouraged to collaborate across departments using the Hornbill company portal, which is part of the product Hornbill sells. As other reviews have mentioned, Gerry, the CEO is wonderfully approachable and shares interesting information on the business on the portal most days. I can see a few runners in the company, and look forward to putting in a few km with them when times allow!

Cons

Not a criticism of Hornbill per-se, the new remote working world I find myself in means I miss the office brainstorm, face-to-face banter, commute (It was part of my exercise routine!)
