Pros

-Busy at Christmas time -Lovely customers

Cons

Awful work practices. Theres a list of everyone's names posted in the counting up room and your name will be highlighted if there is money missing. This wouldn't be a problem if the registers weren't balanced by hand. If the person before you miscounted and the cash bag wasnt checked before you get it (which is the vast majority of the time) then you are at fault and that is quite often the case. When you are counting bags etc, which you have to do before and after your shift, you will not be paid for this. If you're tired after a 10 hour shift, too bad so sad. This can take up to half an hour at a time, so the company may essentially get a free hours work out of you. The company also heavily relies on younger staff and full time. If you're over 18 and employed casually as a cashier, forget it. You'll get one shift a fortnight if you're lucky. This isnt from my experience, this is from watching others. Quite frankly also, the pay isnt worth the petrol getting there. Also, I refuse to purchase anything unpackaged from IGA. Quite often the sewers would get blocked and the smell going out back would be horrendous. In this area is fruit and vegetables. You as an employee when its busy, probably wont get the full allotted break time. Maybe 5/10 minutes if you're lucky.
