Pros

There are many different pros. - Above average salary in Portugal, once you make it past a certain level - I believe that the starting range is around 1400 EUR brutto now; - You are given plenty of flexibility, depending on your department, and are free to organize your workday as you see fit; - Annual success bonus is tied to company performance and the semi industry has been doing well lately - it's a cyclical industry, so this will change; - Genuinely good, competent and motivated professionals that unfortunately don't get the backing, support, tools and recognition that they deserve; - Highly dependent on the team, but a good work environment can be expected in most cases;

Cons

There are also many different cons, but they are mostly related to management. - Manager picks are mostly based on nepotism and not actually on their ability to lead or perform. This is painfully obvious by the terrible English level displayed by some managers, which can be embarrassing at times when you're dealing jointly with foreign colleagues from other sites; - In the past few years there has been a perception by many that certain opportunities and promotions are based on nationality/gender instead of merit; - The main building is in an embarrassing state. Several office chairs are falling apart, sometimes it rains in the common hall, the water cooler doesn't work. There is reluctance to renew the main office and as a consequence it is stuck in 2005; - Certain managers are very poorly equipped for the job (no English, no college degree, no empathy, no sense of fairness) - or perhaps they are actually the right fit, depending on the direction the SSC wants to go; - Very few internal opportunities will be given, externals will always have the priority over who is already in since the budget to hire is larger than the budget to retain/develop existing human capital; - A ludicrous amount of money will be thrown at teambuilding events/corporate events, but when it comes to the yearly raises there simply isn't enough money;
