Toxic/ Paranoid Directors - Manager Integra People Employee Review

Pros

The basic salary is good - that's how they get you on board and the only reason why a lot of staff stayed with them for more than a few weeks.

Cons

The directors are immature, paranoid bullies. They belittle and verbally abuse their staff regularly and all enjoy a bit of a power-trip. The fact that cars are tracked and they're constantly monitoring the CCTV/ audio recording throughout the office says it all. They don't trust their staff, argue between themselves and regularly take their personal issues out on their employees. No management skills between them. It's genuinely shocking that they're still in business. The shiny, modern offices give an illusion that they're well-established and have a solid industry presence, but a pretty office doesn't make up for their behaviour. The way they speak to their employees is beyond disgusting - there aren't words to describe it. Unless you've experienced working for Integra (my sympathies if you have) you can't grasp just how terrible they are. The negative reviews on here must seem to be exaggerated - no company could possibly act like this and get away with it - but these reports are entirely true. Check LinkedIn and speak to anybody who has worked there in the past and they'll all give you first-hand accounts of the obnoxious directors and their downright revolting approach to staff management. You're expected to take on multiple roles within the business, and actually starting/ finishing on time (as per your contracted hours) is frowned upon. They question your every move - inside and outside of work. I was told not to make friends with my colleagues, and discouraged from spending time with them outside of the office. Other than a competitive basic, and frequent raises if you're on track and don't question the managers - there are no positive reasons to work for Integra. In the end, the money isn't even worth it. They couldn't physically pay you enough to make up for the toxic working environment and bullying tactics. The insanely high staff turnover demonstrates that. The only staff who remain are 'favourites'. They may last longer than others, but they'll leave eventually. If you don't know how to treat/ manage your staff, you won't keep them. They'll move to companies where they are genuinely valued and respected (something Integra have never understood the meaning of) and be much more productive in a safe, trusting, and 'adult' environment. Working in such a stressful, intimidating and demoralising environment made me physically ill, and it's only since leaving and working for what I'll call a 'real' recruitment company, that I've come to understand exactly how disgraceful this business is. If you're considering working for Integra... Don't.

Integra People Response
7y
Dear anonymous reviewer, this is a saddening and disappointing review, again designed to damage and discredit Integra People. It is getting repetitive to explain that any office with a good security system would also have invested in CCTV, do you feel just as uneasy in Tesco? Or walking down the modern high street? In order for the business to be 'constantly monitoring' the CCTV would include needing a full time member of staff for the full duration of the working hours, which with managers and directors sitting with their teams, I have no idea why the company would or could do such 'monitoring', also as a successful business we have a lot more important things to be focused on. We can't help but find it rather ironic that in one breath we are being accused of paranoia, yet there seems to be a lot of paranoia surrounding the CCTV and company car tracking system. In my personal opinion, if you are that concerned about your management seeing what you are doing during the working day, then I would put your activity and motivation in to question. In regards to monitoring the whereabouts of staff via the tracking system, again, this is only reviewed by finance for expenses, or by company directors when there is an accident or when employees have exceeded the speed limit by a considerable margin. The saddest part of this review is that the reviewer was given a great deal of investment and time by management and Directors and they even spent considerable amount of time trying to help the employee when they went through a personal crisis, of which I still have the volume of thank you emails. It is a shame that a relationship like this can be damaged by trying to work with them to increase their quality and performance (with little investment and result from the consultant), and I truly think they only have the role they hold currently based on the experience they gained within our business. We will of course look at any aspects of your review that is constructive and strive to address it with expedience.

Pros

Basic salary paid as expected

Cons

When people talk about toxic work environments, nothing compares to Integra. The culture and general atmosphere is hard to describe, you only know if you’ve experienced it, but the words fear, anxiety, toxic come to mind. The company has been trading for around 16-17 years and often talks about being in a growth phase, but there are very few long-serving employees (if you’re employed for over a year you are a long serving employee). Most don’t last longer than 6 months. This shows what the culture and environment is actually like. There a lack of trust throughout the management structure, and decision making was heavily controlled by the owners, everything has to be run by them, no matter your job title. The business always seemed excited about bringing in new employees, especially ones with director titles and big salaries, but they don’t stay long. This happens maybe every 6 months, they bring in a new director or senior level manager, maybe for a new division, they try their best but because they actually have no authority, they fail and leave or are let go. The blame is never Integra’s fault though, it’s always the person. Compliance is reactive not proactive, barely scraping legal requirements. Employees have to give two weeks' notice for annual leave and even for medical appointments or taking half a day off. Benefits were limited beyond statutory requirements. Anyone considering joining should ask to see the policies on sick pay, maternity pay, bereavement leave and other benefits before accepting an offer, the answer is, there is no benefits. The commission structure also included wording stating that payments were ultimately at the directors' discretion. Priorities change regularly, making it difficult to understand the long term plan for the business, one minute they want to focus on construction, the next minute they’ve hired a new driving consultant. Of course, this is based on my own experience and others may have had a different one. However, the high turnover, management style and lack of clear direction were recurring themes throughout my time there. Based on that experience, I would not recommend working for Integra or any closely associated businesses linked to the same ownership.

Pros

Although I have not been with Integra People for as long as some of the long standing team members, my experience so far has been very positive. From joining, I have found the team to be welcoming, knowledgeable and genuinely supportive. There is a strong sense of collaboration across the business and it is clear many people have built long term careers here, which in itself says a lot about the environment. Leadership are visible and engaged and there is a real focus on communication and making sure people feel supported in their roles. I have also had the opportunity to speak with colleagues who have been with the business for many years and their experiences have been consistently positive in terms of growth, support and progression. The business is fast paced, as you would expect within recruitment, but the tools, systems and team support are all in place to help you succeed.

Cons

As I am still relatively new, there has been a lot to learn in the early stages. That said, expectations have been clear and guidance has been available whenever needed.
