Pros

Lots of smart, creative employees.

Cons

I think this agency could be good in 10 - 20 years after a LOT of work. I say that because many of the staff members were very talented people and I think leadership means well. While I was at Kane, they struggled to nail down who they were and how they operated. It seemed like they cared more about the billable hour than the quality of the work produced. That alone is enough for me to advise against working here, but unfortunately the problems between staff members was the real kicker. I consistently overheard gossip about everything from attitudes, to leadership abilities, to competency. I gathered that these whispers and complaints were rarely brought to the person in question or said to their face, which often lead to an employee being labeled as incompetent and/or being blindsided by their supervisor. I should be clear in saying that this did not happen to me, but I witnessed it more than once and it made me incredibly uncomfortable knowing that this could happen to anyone. I felt like I was walking on eggshells. To make matters worse, there was a lot of pressure around appearance. It felt like I was on a runway whenever I stepped into the office. I have no problem with professional attire, but paired with the constant gossip and the company's value of looking like a good agency over performing like a good agency made it another con. I was always anxious about looking and acting "on brand" rather than being myself. Save yourself the trouble and don't work here.

Pros

I've worked for companies around the country, but this is the first company I've worked for where the company's leadership team makes it a point to get to know each employee. The company uses Clifton Strengths Finder to understand an employees strengths. They take the time to really get to know each employee and use the assessment to help employees capitalize on their strengths and understand the challenges the strengths can also create. I value how this assement has been used in my own personal and professional development. Personally, I've learned a lot. I appreciate how the company uses all staff meetings to keep the team informed about strategic priorities. Leadership values transparency and sees it as a way to help each of us understand our impact on the business and how to get more traction in our roles. The CEO is impressive. Not just becaause of how well known and respected she is in the community. But she has a funny and very warm side to her. She pushes to open doors for people on the team through networking events and professional development and she challenges employees to think big and ask questions. I realize that her background as a journalist provided training for this approach, but she's created a learning environment at Kane where we feel comfortable challenging our own comfort zones to ask tough and relevant questions and bring those big ideas to our clients. A few other pros: No micromanagement - the company has high expectations and processes, but people are trusted to do good work. Free parking - the office is in downtown Milwaukee and in walking distance to the Public Market, Summerfest grounds, Fiserv Forum. We can park in the attached garage anytime and walk to great places. Growth opportunities - when you deliver results for your clients, retain and grow your clients, set a positive example for junior staff (as we should be in our role, anyway), leadership gives you a lot of support. I'm tapped for ideas all the time. Where else does that happen?!

Cons

Sometimes I think people take it for granted how strong of a place Kane is to work. The company provides limitless snacks and coffee to employees and the workplace is very flexible. Employees, especially our young employees, may not realize how unusual it is to work in company that pays intentional attention to what employees want, and do something about it!

Pros

There are lots of pros to working at Kane. I joined the company because of its reputation and its certification as a B Corp. Kane has lived up to everything I expected. Employees are recognized for their work. We meet with our supervisor for weekly touch bases and quarterly conversations, where check in and review our work and workload, we set goals, establish priorities, and we're supported. The work is very meaningful across a varity of industries. The company emphasizes personal and professional development and provides flexibility - with no questions asked - when life gets in the way.

Cons

None. Great place to work for high achievers and good human beings.
