Pros

Pay is good for the area.

Cons

To get a decent check, you are required to work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week. Even though it is said that staffing is up and overtime is going away. The pay is ok. Locality pay from Lyon county is going away. That is a five dollar an hour pay cut. Favoritism and sexual harassment from supervisory staff is on going. The hiring process is the easiest process of any correctional or law enforcement job. No aptitude test, no polygraph. Pass a background and drug screen, you are hired. Many people hired are not qualified to work in an all male maximum security prison, making an already hazardous job even more dangerous.

Pros

Good pay for the location in Kentucky

Cons

If you’re a woman you are degraded and made to feel less than a male working there. The favoritism is run ramped. The sexual harassment is alot to deal with and reporting any harassment gets you retaliated against. The place is unsanitary and you’re made to work around roaches, and rats. Inmates that throw feces and urine have little repercussion. A better option to work is a county jail verses working for the Department of Corrections.
