Pros

There is no good reason to work here. In fact, if you are considering employment here, I strongly advise that you look elsewhere unless you have no morals.

Cons

This "non-profit" was essentially set up so Timothy Eric Galloway could take advantage of tax credits and NYC DOHMH money to build his real estate empire. When the motivation is money and profit rather than providing a safe, secure home for low income families, provision of quality social service care is of the lowest priority. I worked there as a program director over the course of 2 years and I'm proud to say that during that time, I worked with a group of people who genuinely cared and wanted to help the residents improve their lives. But after numerous incidents where we tried to reason with the property management arm and were essentially told to fall in line or leave, it was clear that the mission of Lantern is simply to line Galloway's pockets. Soon after, he turned over virtually all leadership and brought on board a CEO with was willing to do his bidding. End result? Caseworkers were told they couldn't help clients when they fell into arrears even though that is exactly what the city pays them to do. They hired the cheapest security which often resulted in ill trained guards caught napping. Tenants weren't allowed to use the common areas and were generally treated with disdain by the property management staff. Those of us who cared about being associated with this organization and the clients left soon after.

Pros

- permanent housing so you don't have to find clients housing necessarily. -

Cons

- horrible management - always short staff - inconsistent case loads - no union can be fired at any time regardless of how much you contributed to the company
