Great pay, unless you're administartive staff - Administrative Assistant Larned State Hospital Safety/Security Employee Review

Pros

Offer housing to employees which is nice.

Cons

Nearly all administrative positions are severely underpaid when compared to other positions. Where MHDD's and security officers are receiving raises during COVID, administrative staff has not seen a change in pay. Just because we do not work directly with patients, doesn't mean we are not as valuable.

Pros

Excellent benefits and reasonable pay.

Cons

Administration is constantly in self preservation mode, looking for the next person to dump the blame on when their decisions/ideas do not work. They sit in meetings all day and make decisions on how staff do their jobs, but never take the time to learn what those jobs really entail. They are not supportive or encouraging of ideas or new ways of thinking and continue to resort to ideas that have failed over and over. Administration also micro manages supervisors, making them feel like robots with no authority and stripping them of any individuality in how they do their jobs. They suppress creativity and belittle staff who try to exceed expectations or truly want to be a part of solutions to improve the organization. They provide multiple chances to staff with poor work habits, but are quick to terminate great staff who make little mistakes. Morale is little to none and turn over is HIGH and the jobs are stressful. No focus on staff retention...only on who to blame next or how to get their next raise. No focus on family; work is forced to come first.
