Pros
- The PTO is extremely generous and you get whole weeks off for some holiday's because school is not in session
- Friendly and welcoming upper management - Easy to communicate with and helpful with answering questions when I first started
- Love the community and environment, happy to see the dedication to diversity and inclusion for the programs and within the organization!!
- Fulfilling to work for a non-profit and feel like I am making a difference to building equitable access to education resources for young students
Cons
- Working directly with kids can have it's ups and downs, but it is part of choosing to work kids (helped that there is a lot of PTO to help balance)
- Can't have the flexibility of working from home if in a teacher position
Some opportunity for professional development
Increased benefit offerings (like sabbatical and paid parental leave)
Great colleagues - mission and values bring staff and community together
Cons
Policies lack enforcement - from direct service staff all the way up through executive level positions
Little to accountability
Poor project planning and implementation
Board of directors is too disconnected to understand the organization and its needs, leading to poor decision making at the highest level. Even when the board has received feedback they reexplained the situation rather than taking accountability and following-up with appropriate action. Board members have also left during important company-wide meetings meant to address employee concerns about a host of issues.
